About my approach to therapy
Together, we can help your child feel seen.
Why work with me?
Holistic approach
By combining the science of interpersonal neurobiology and child development with the art of relationship-building and secure connection, I help children move into a better state of integration. When there is integration there is regulation.
Safe and supportive environment
Positive relationships are healing relationships and are based on trust, honesty, and compassion. Adolescents, children, and parents can feel confident that their experiences, thoughts, and feelings are respected and valued here.
Understanding over diagnosing
Diagnosis can be stigmatizing for both a child and their parents. I work to help families gain insight into problematic behavior to better understand their child and to strengthen their relationship.
Building resilience
My goal is not just to alleviate immediate challenges but to equip kids and teens with the tools they need to face future hurdles with confidence.
Working with parents/caregivers
I believe in the power of collaboration with parents and caregivers. These relationships provide the personalized responsiveness, support, and protection that buffers children from disruptions in their development.
Rates and Insurance
rates
Fees for child or adolescent, parent consultation, individual adult, or family sessions are $220 for 50 minutes. Additional information regarding fees is available during the informed consent process.
insurance
I do not take insurance directly, but will provide super bills for possible insurance reimbursement. Please check with your insurance provider directly to understand your specific coverage.
Good Faith Estimate
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much you should expect to pay for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. You can request your clinician to provide you with a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least one business day before your first session. The law says that if you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
Frequently Asked Questions
What issues can child and teen therapy address?
Child and teen therapy can address a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, behavioral challenges, school-related difficulties, family changes, trauma, and social struggles. My approach is tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual.
How do I know if my child or teen needs therapy?
Recognizing the need for therapy can vary, but common signs include significant changes in behavior, academic performance, or mood. If you notice persistent challenges or concerns, seeking the guidance of a qualified therapist can provide valuable support for your child's well-being.
What is the difference between talk therapy and play therapy?
Talk therapy involves verbal communication and is well-suited for teens who can articulate their thoughts and feelings. Play therapy, on the other hand, is designed for younger children and uses play as a means of expression, allowing them to communicate and process emotions in a developmentally appropriate way.
How long does therapy for children and teens typically last?
The duration of therapy varies depending on the individual's needs and goals. Some concerns may be addressed in a few sessions, while others may require longer-term support. Regular assessments will be conducted to ensure the effectiveness of the therapeutic process.
Do parents/caregivers participate in therapy sessions?
Collaborating with parents enhances the effectiveness of therapy. The extent to which parents are involved in the therapy process, however, might differ depending on the situation and the age of your child.
Is therapy confidential for children and teens?
Confidentiality is a crucial aspect of therapy. While I respect the privacy of our young clients, there are legal and ethical limits to confidentiality. We will discuss these limits with both the client and their parents/caregivers to ensure transparency and trust.
How can I prepare my child or teen for therapy?
It's helpful to have an open and honest conversation with your child about the purpose of therapy. Emphasize that it's a safe space to express themselves. Encourage questions and address any concerns they may have. The initial sessions are focused on building rapport and establishing a trusting relationship.
Can therapy help with academic challenges or behavioral issues at school?
Absolutely. Therapy can address a variety of school-related issues, including academic challenges, bullying, social skills development, and behavioral concerns.
What therapeutic approaches are used with children and teens?
My therapeutic approaches are diverse and tailored to the individual. I commonly use talk therapy, play therapy, expressive arts, and other evidence-based interventions based on the unique needs and preferences of each client.
